Three Pence Guide to Milk Alternatives

March 05, 2020

Whether it’s due to lactose intolerance, you’re joining the vegan movement or it’s simply a taste preference, many are making the switch to non-dairy milk alternatives for their coffee. We’re here for it and we’re happy to help you make the switch.

We are now spoilt for choice when it comes to milk alternatives and Three Pence proudly stock and supply the best of the best. These options include *takes deep breath* soy milk, almond milk, macadamia milk, hazelnut milk, coconut milk, cashew milk, oat milk, rice milk and hemp milk. Let’s break a few of these down for you.

Soy Milk:

Probably one of the more popular alternatives, soy milk is produced by soaking and grinding soybeans, boiling the mixture and then filtering out the chunky bits. It will add a bit of a nutty flavour to your coffee, and due to natural oils, the milk tends to split once it’s been sitting a while, however a quick stir will fix this. Three Pence recommend Bonsoy, MILKLAB or Happy Happy Soy Boy for your next soy latte.

Macadamia Milk:

Macadamia milk is a great alternative if you’re still looking to get a calcium hit from your milk. It adds a subtle berry-like nut flavour and it doesn’t water down a cold brew as it’s still got a smooth, creamy taste similar to cow’s milk. We’ve heard that once you go mac you never go back. Three Pence recommends Macamilk or MILKLAB.

Oat Milk:

Oats are incredibly versatile so it’s no surprise they’re in milk form now. As a whole grain, they’re filled with fibre, protein and B vitamins and minerals, they’re a gift that just keeps giving. Oat milk will add a little sweetness to your coffee and may separate like soy, but the aforementioned stir will fix. Three Pence recommends Minor Figures Oat M*lk.
